In March 2005, Montagu led and arranged the Management Buyout of Leo Animal Health (subsequently renamed VetXX) from its shareholder, the privately owned Danish pharmaceutical company Leo Pharma.

Montagu acquired VetXX in partnership with the company's incumbent management team who made a substantial investment in the company, demonstrating the management's strong belief in the company's future growth prospects.

VetXX marketed pharmaceutical products for skin, eye and ear diseases, and produced pet diet food (through the brand SPECIFIC) and pet care products for companion animals. All animal health products were distributed exclusively through veterinary surgeries.

The company was based in Ballerup and Uldum, Denmark, and had sales in more than 35 countries. Its veterinary medicine range included well-established brands such as Canaural, Fucithalmic Vet, Fuciderm Vet, Perlutex, Malaseb and Artrizin. The range of SPECIFIC pet diet foods consisted of complete life-stage diets for healthy cats and dogs as well as therapeutic diets for the management of clinical conditions.

Montagu's strong and longstanding relationship with the management team, its open and constructive dialogue with the vendor throughout the process and its credibility to deliver value in a very tight timeframe was key to its success in this transaction.

In December 2007 VetXX was sold to Dechra Pharmceuticals.
